Admission Requirements for the Advanced Pharmacy Technician Training Program
To be accepted into the program applicants must meet the following requirements:
- 18 years old
- High School Diploma or GED
- Clean Criminal Background check
- Updated Immunization Records
- Score of 80 or above on entrance exam
Note: score less than 80 will not prohibit admission but will instead require the student participate in additional training related to entrance exam components of math, typing or both. Such training will not incur an additional fee but will require additional study time.
Admission Procedures
Once an admission application is completed, the applicant is then informed about the program itself, the next class starting date, admission requirements, and school policies in general. Each applicant will be granted an interview and then given a tour of the school.
An Enrollment Agreement is processed when the applicant is determined to be qualified for training. A “Notice of Student Rights” informing the students to their right to cancel the training contract is given to each student at the time of enrollment and prior to enrolling.
Criminal Background check
A satisfactory criminal background check will be required prior to granting full admission to the program. The student will not have to repeat the background check unless there is a break in program enrollment. Should there be a change in the student’s criminal history at any time during the program, the student must advise the program coordinator. Failure to do so will result in program expulsion.
Note: While a successful background check is required for licensure, it does not guarantee that a license will be issued or that employment will be made available. Individual clinical sites may also require a criminal background check. This is in addition to what is required for admission.
Immunization Records
Updated immunization records will be required prior to admission. A TB screen and/or x-ray taken within the prior 12mos period is required prior to placement on any clinical rotation. Individual clinical sites may also require a copy of your immunization records or an additional TB screening. This is in addition to what is required for admission.
Drug Screening
A negative drug test will be required prior to deployment to clinical rotation. Individual clinical sites may also require a drug screen during the clinical rotation. Students may also be subject to random drug tests throughout the program. If at any time a student has a positive drug screen, the student will be subject to withdrawal from the program. Readmission will be at the direction of the program director.
Admissions Disclosure
Since most employers conduct background checks prior to hiring, it is important to make our prospective students aware that many career fields prohibit or discourage hiring individuals with a history of criminal background. In addition, the Texas State of Pharmacy will require the same. It is therefore important to provide full disclosure of past criminal history (misdemeanors and/or felonies) to your Admissions Representative prior to enrolling in the Program. Failure to disclose this history may affect externship, State board registration and/or employment opportunities upon completion of your program.
